Fast-Square has developed a
software to Optimize the Cutting process of Steel with Slitters,
Cut-to-Length and Shears. This Italian software house with an English name (www.fast-square.com), has developed a software package (Coil Cut Optimizer) to
help Steel and Aluminium Service Centres in planning and optimizing their
cutting lines. With CCO you can select, show and filter in a simple interactive
way the set of Customer Orders and Coils you want to cut (plan). In few seconds
CCO optimizer is capable of automatically build a set of cutting programs that
are considered “optimal” according to the criteria (S.Polo
Lamiere in this case study) that can be easily configured
in the CCO system. The key Optimization Criteria considered are
: trim-loss minimization, setup-minimization, complete utilization of
Coils, minimization of order fragmentation, cutting-machine scheduling
optimization. CCO calculates the “best” cutting-plans without violating any
typical constraint of Steel Service Centres like: weight constraints, diameter
constraints and maximum allowed number of knives for slitting machines or
Customer constraints about width, weight and diameters. CCO implementation in S.Polo Lamiere has confirmed that
the software can be integrated with the company information system in few
weeks. Afterwards S.Polo’s planning experts have used
CCO in parallel for some months in order to parametrize
and test their specific Optimization Criteria and now all cutting programs are
created through CCO. Carlo Vezzosi,
head of IT in S.Polo Lamiere
has declared: “We have appreciated the flexibility of the software. CCO has
been easily configured with our own Optimization Criteria and specific
requirements. Ing. Vigano’,
General Director in S.Polo Lamiere,
has declared: “The utilization of CCO is an important step in the reengineering
of the complete planning and cutting process of the company.” CCO can be easily
integrated with other Information Systems like standard ERPs.
